Those lovely people over the water came up with the great idea of making wearing 150cm2 of hi viz material when on a bike compulsory. Now, I’m not against hi viz. I own one and wear it when commuting. I do, however, dislike being told to wear it especially when the evidence that it will make a difference to the numbers injured or killed on the roads is flaky at best. Still, never letting facts get in the way in a true EU law making style, the rule was passed.

Now we have just heard that it has be revoked. Hallelujah! A small victory for freedom of choice and personal rights.

Now we just need to stop victimising bike riders and get the driving test made as stringent as the bike test and maybe we will see a meaningful drop in casualties.

Now I know there are many people with far bigger problems than this in the world and even in our cosy little country things are not as good as they could be but it is just annoying me. Thankfully neither myself, my family or my friends are flooded right now so we are much luckier than some and I should count my blessings. My thoughts go out to those who are worrying about somewhere to sleep rather than a mode of transport.

Back in my world though I’m still fed up.. Roll on this Thursday and the NEC Show. That’ll cheer me up!

OK, I know, I’ve gone and ordered an old man bike..

Well that said I am using it for commuting and all of a sudden the ability to do 150+ miles a day in comfort rather than 150+ miles an hour becomes the deciding factor. Exciting, no not really but I am feeling my years right now and frankly, I can’t wait to get on it.

So, come 1st March there will be a new, shiny silver Triumph Trophy SE in the garage. Roll on!!
